Burns & McDonnell SCADA Engineer - Networks, Integration, and Automation (Akron) in Akron, Ohio
Our Transmission & Distribution global practice is looking for a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Engineer in our Akron office to serve as a technical lead for SCADA deployment projects, specifically in the electric utility industry.
Primary responsibilities for the SCADA Engineer will include:
Providing technical support and informal training to both internal and external resources
Coordinating daily with client SCADA engineers
Interfacing with field SCADA technicians, EMS testers, network engineers, and EMS modelers
Coordinating with internal and external commissioning engineers and project managers
Reviewing and updating SCADA points lists and SCADA device configurations
Supporting troubleshooting and in-servicing of SCADA equipment and points
Understanding and applying client SCADA process for EMS modeling, SCADA device change compliance, and SCADA device configuration uploads
Supporting design changes and project in-servicing
Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel to develop relationships with key client points of contact.
Secondary responsibilities for the SCADA Engineer will include:
Designing SCADA systems utilizing client standards or developing new standards.
Project deliverables may include:
device configuration files
equipment migration plans
bill of materials
equipment panel layout
schematic and wiring diagrams
Identifying and troubleshoot device communications using several different protocols
Implementing SCADA systems using various transports and protocols
Creating and maintaining checklists to ensure quality control
Executing complex assignments requiring the use of advanced tools and techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods.
Identifying, communicating, and resolving issues on projects as needed.
Providing leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members.
Working with the project manager to establish project schedule and lead the engineering team to meet deadlines.
Working closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to client’s satisfaction and that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines.
Performing design quality reviews.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.
3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
Successful completion (i.e.passing) FE or EIT preferred.
Previous utility company and/or consulting experience.
Experience in telecommunications and/or SCADA engineering.
Advanced knowledge of industrial standards and codes such as ISO, NFPA, NEC, IEEE
Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Strong computer skills including rendering programs and other analysis programs.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
