Description
Engineering management position responsible for overall internal development and management of the Chicago Distribution Modernization department.
Work closely with the Chicago Distribution Modernization Business Line Manager, the Distribution Modernization Director, and the other Distribution Modernization leads from various regional offices on project staffing, resource development, and pursuits across the entire business line.
Coordinate work for the Distribution Modernization department.
Assist in the development and execution of the Chicago T&D Business Plan.
Prepare and monitor the department budget and expenditure of funds for staffing hours, supplies, training, and equipment.
Support Human Resources on educational partnerships and internship programs.
Provide for the development and leveraging of a strong ‘Burns and McDonnell India’ (or other value engineering) team dedicated to the support of Chicago Distribution Modernization Projects.
Provide oversight for a coordinated and disciplined pursuit process including thoughtful “go/no-go” decisions, win strategies, proposal staffing, development of pricing, contract terms and conditions, and risk-reviews.
Recruit top-talent as well as the engagement and retainage of staff.
Responsible for the development of leadership within the Distribution Modernization department and for assisting with the overall leadership development within the office.
Organize, lead, and conduct annual performance appraisal process for department staff.
Ensure that the corporate and T&D quality initiatives are implemented, including coordinating with the appropriate teams to assign quality control reviewers.
Develop department tools and workflows to increase efficiency.
All other duties as assigned.
Travel required up to 15% of the time.
Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering or a directly related field plus seven (7) years relevant Distribution Modernization engineering or project management experience.
Must have five (5) years of experience with the following:
Designing and/or leading a minimum of 50 miles of overhead and/or underground distribution modernization projects
Coordinating distribution projects with utility stakeholders
Performing NESC cold calculations to assist in design
Must have three (3) years of experience with the following
Project scope definition, scoping studies, technical development, and estimating Distribution modernization related projects, including line rebuilds, line reconductors, 4.8kV to 12kV conversions, greenfield lines, new underground, underground cable replacements, overhead to underground conversions, and equipment installations
Engineering design, conceptual or detailed, and/or project management in the Transmission and Distribution industry Leading distribution modernization projects with engineering budgets exceeding $250,000
Leading overhead and underground Distribution modernization projects ranging from 4kV to 40kV
Performing routing analysis on overhead and underground Distribution modernization projects Performing pole loading analysis using programs such as PoleForeman, O-Calc, or PLS-CADD Direct supervision of a team, including providing performance appraisals, team workload planning, career planning discussions, and development of a training program.
Recruiting and hiring of engineering professionals with a background in distribution modernization design.
The employer will also accept a Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Engineering or a directly related field plus six (6) years relevant Distribution Modernization engineering or project management experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus seven (7) years of the described experience.
Travel required up to 15% of the time.
