Burns & McDonnell Section Manager- 1898 & Co (Atlanta, GA) in Atlanta, Georgia

Description

The Section Manager role would sit over all pillars in 1898 & Co (E98) which includes tech, utility, management and cyber consulting for our Atlanta offices. The focus would be on professional development and building the foundational areas for assistant and staff positions in preparation for becoming project managers including the following, with other duties as assigned by senior management:

  • Support or lead portions of department meetings; organize and lead section meetings.

  • Coordinate with the GP Regional Office Manager and other internal managers in the Atlanta region.

  • Coordinate with E98 Section Managers and Business Line Managers across all Division locations.

  • Interpret and establish policies, procedures, and strategic goals of the organization.

  • Support and assist in the development of a business plan for the Atlanta Regional office market.

  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight and judgment in anticipating and solving problems.

  • Determine departmental objectives and requirements, organize projects and develop standards and guidelines.

  • Market the Global Practice, Department and Section capabilities with higher focus on technically challenging projects to serve our clients, increase staff skills, and maintain billable goals.

  • Attend project and staff meetings when needed to support division activities

  • Advance and develop Section tools and work flows to increase efficiency of methods, deliverable production, and project execution.

  • Provide administrative, supervisory and technical direction for E98 personnel.

  • Set quality review assignments and perform quality reviews for E98 related projects.

  • Assist with and lead proposal efforts.

  • Establish or review budgets and schedules for E98 related proposals.

  • Provide guidance to E98 consultants relative to set-up and structure of staffing and execution approach on projects including interface with other disciplines.

  • Monitor progress on E98 related projects and provide input into areas of concern and direction or redirection to enhance achievement of project schedules, productivity goals, budgets, and quality.

  • Serve as the technical advisor and provide senior-level input and evaluation of project activities.

  • Assist E98 staff with project setup and administration in financial systems, coordinating with the client / team, handling billing / invoicing, change orders, project closeout, etc.

  • Support definition of creative strategies (performance, technical, and commercial) to enhance proposal strategic capture plans.

  • Create and maintain key client relationships to foster new project opportunities for the Assistant and Staff level employee-owners, as well as internal cross selling opportunities.

  • Support proposals in evaluating commercial terms and technical requirements to mitigate BMcD risks.

  • Assign work and review E98 staff performance to ensure quality and efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.

  • Monitor and maintain development staffing levels, staffing loading, and staffing assignments to meet project requirements while maintaining billable goals.

  • Recruitment, development, training and retention of E98 personnel; fostering a culture within the Section of continuous skill development for career advancement.

  • Supervise work flow development and preparation and maintenance of tools and processes for execution of technical projects.

  • Act as a coordinator / liaison with other global practices on activities related to E98 projects.

  • Act as a coordinator / liaison with regional offices and provide guidance regarding project approach, contacts and expert consultants, availability of personnel for quality reviews, and other similar activities related to projects.

  • Provide administrative, supervisory and technical direction for Cooperative Education Students and Summer Interns assigned to E98 including assignment of work, coordinating site trips, and other associated activities.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other engineering discipline from accredited program. Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in various E98 or engineering projects. Candidate must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients. Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change. Candidates must possess strong department and project management skills and a strategic perspective. Must be proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Professional engineering license is preferred.
