Burns & McDonnell Senior Mechanical Engineer - Manufacturing (Atlanta) in Atlanta, Georgia
Burns & McDonnell is experiencing growth within our Global Facilities group, and we are looking to add a Senior level Mechanical Engineer to the team. Our team is heavily involved in facility design and development within the aerospace industry, corporate office environments, life sciences, research facilities and industrial manufacturing. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. This individual will take on client facing roles and will be provided with the support and freedom to continue growing the business. Key responsibilities include:
Lead mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings; data interface with suppliers, clients other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers.
Applies expert knowledge of commonly used mechanical concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the mechanical engineering services industry.
Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.
Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects and project related data as required by the project managers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
Prepare packaged mechanical equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning. Responsible for effective management of change orders.
Provide construction administration services including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of mechanical systems.
Leads field inspections, installation, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the mechanical engineering practice. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
May serve as a Project Manager on projects of various sizes to be responsible for budget, schedules, scope and project staffing
Some marketing responsibilities.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelors or master’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering from accredited program.
Minimum 7 years of related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience).
Candidate will have engineering experience in the construction industry, especially design-build projects.
Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically, analytically, and creatively in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
Licensed Professional Engineer in the United States in good standing is required.
Experience with manufacturing process equipment such as ovens, chemical fume hoods, large autoclaves, process vacuum systems, industrial material handling, ISO Cleanrooms, SCIF facilities, and paint booths preferred.
Previous consulting experience highly preferred.
Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access authorization to the clients' sites required.
Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong computer skills using common industry design, CAD, and administrative software platforms.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
This is an office working environment with field work required based on project demands. The office working environment is a typical setting. The field environment may include working in various climates throughout the year and must work in a safe manner. Travel to the jobsite may require traversing potentially ungraded, ground, steps, ladders, etc.
