Burns & McDonnell Senior Project Manager - Substation (Baltimore, MD) in Baltimore, Maryland

Description

This position is responsible for providing managerial direction and direct project management for the Substation Engineering team located in the Baltimore, MD office. The goal of the position is to grow the T&D business in Baltimore in a dynamic and profitable manner based upon Burns & McDonnell's core values of safety, client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, and overall outstanding service. This position provides a unique opportunity to not only directly manage projects, but also to be an office leader, drive regional growth, and provide key input into long-term business planning and to the vision for the region.

Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties assigned by senior management:

  • Advocate safety and quality.

  • Provide leadership.

  • Lead development and maintenance of an office/department business plan; lead and support proposal efforts to support profitable growth.

  • Assist with recruitment, development and retention of staff; mentor staff for division growth.

  • Ensure corporate and T&D quality initiatives are implemented.

  • Act as a coordinator / liaison with other NEO offices on activities related to technical development, company experts, and availability of personnel for quality reviews.

  • Serve as a technical advisor and provide guidance regarding project approach,

  • Identify project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with NEO leadership and T&D practice leadership, determine project fees, write proposals, prepare client presentations, and negotiate contracts.

  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.

  • Manage and monitor progress, make decisions and give direction or redirection to enhance achievement of project schedules, productivity goals, budgets, and quality.

  • Advance and develop department tools and workflows to increase efficiency of designs, specification development, and project execution.

  • Direct and coordinate activities across several disciplines on multiple projects.

  • Clearly communicate all project needs and direction, serve as the main point of contact with the client for multiple projects.

  • Provide work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.

  • Responsible for planning, budgeting and establishing critical project objectives. Responsible for the overall success of the project (safety, quality, and profitability).

  • Ensure profitable and sound growth.

  • Achieve stated targets for project financial performance

  • Coordinate training needs and requirements with the Substation Department Manager.

  • Coordinate shared client work with other NEO (New England) offices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other engineering discipline from an accredited program with a minimum of 7 years related professional experience.

  • Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer and have technical ability in substation engineering design.

  • Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Strong project management skills and a strategic perspective is required.
