Description
Burns & McDonnell has an opening for an experienced solid waste and resource recovery professional to join our Environmental Services (ENS) team. The Senior Planner will work in a team atmosphere leading and supporting projects, performing detailed technical, financial, and operational analyses to assist our clients plan for a sustainable future of solid waste management and resource recovery within their communities. The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated with an eagerness to embrace ongoing challenges associated with the wide variety of projects we support locally, regionally, and nationally. The Senior Planner will have the following areas of responsibility with opportunity for accelerated growth into a leadership role within the ENS practice:
Development of solid waste management plans, zero waste plans, waste diversion and recycling plans or studies.
Serve as project manager for key clients and projects, responsible for establishing and leading project teams and overall project execution.
Lead business development efforts both regionally and nationally for SW&RR planning projects including developing client relationships, opportunity identification, pursuit and capture planning, and proposal preparation.
Research, analysis, and compilation of project data necessary to meet planning objectives.
Evaluate solid waste and recycling services, operations, facilities, and policies.
Assist in public information and engagement activities.
Preparation and analysis of financial projections, forecasts, cost of services, and rates.
Develop project reports, analytical work papers, and project presentations.
Support other environmental and sustainability services as applicable and other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Studies/Science, Sustainability, Urban Planning, Business Administration, Public Administration, or other related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum 8 years of related professional experience. (10 years in the solid waste and resource recovery profession strongly preferred.)
Focused experience in solid waste management planning, waste diversion, recycling, and organics management preferred.
Experience with project management and business development preferred.
Position requires the ability to influence, lead, and manage change thoughtfully and positively.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent analytical skills.
High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to meet deadlines and quality expectations.
Available for travel as necessary (approximately 15%).
