Burns & McDonnell Staff Process Engineer - Oil, Gas, and Chemical (Calgary, CAN) in Calgary, Alberta

Description

The Staff Process Engineer will be a part of a team of process engineers to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including oil, gas, chemicals, renewables, bioprocessing, and upstream facilities. The Staff Process Engineer will be engaged on the project throughout the front end, detailed design and construction process, adapting process plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.

  • Perform process design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

  • Support the creation of process chemical specifications and datasheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), and technical bid summaries.

  • Design process components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

  • Support the creation of project deliverables, including heat & material balances, project similuations, material selection diagrames, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, instrumentation datasheets, and line lists.

  • Participate in project HAZOPs and Cause & Effect meetings.

  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used process engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the process engineering services industry.

  • Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.

  • Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.

  • Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.

  • Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.

  • Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.

  • Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines as required.

  • Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Chemical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.

  • 3 years of process engineering experience, consulting preferred.

  • Successful completion (i.e.passing) FE or EIT preferred.

  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Strong computer skills include process simulation software (i.e. Hysys and/or Aspen, HTRI).

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

Schedule :

  • 40 hours a week, with travel to project sites possibly required

Travel :

  • Travel requirements will vary based on projects. On average position will require 25% travel
