Burns & McDonnell Staff Electrical Engineers (Charlotte) in Charlotte, North Carolina

Description

·Responsible for substation engineering and consulting services for clients across the US and internationally.

·Primary responsibilities include creating electrical protection & control and/or physical layout design deliverables and performing various engineering studies associated with electric substation design.

·Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class from small distribution equipment upgrades (12kV) to large transmission projects (500kV).

·Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients .

·Telecommuting allowed 30 days per year. Travel required up to 15% for internal meetings and client site visits.

·Multiple Positions Available.

Qualifications

·Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a directly related field plus three (3) years of engineering experience. Completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is required.

·A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a directly related Engineering Technology field must be accompanied with completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

Must have at least two (2) years of experience with the following:

  • Development of scopes of work and conceptual, preliminary, and/or detailed designs for electric substation projects.

  • Preparation of engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules.

  • Protection & Control substation design (such as panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementaries, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring) and/or Physical substation design (such as development of yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, and associated bills of material).

  • Preparation of calculations for studies and reports (e.g. grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies).

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Microsoft Office Suite.

  • AutoCAD or MicroStation, CDEGS or WiniGS software programs.

  • Alternatively, the employer will also accept a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field plus two (2) years of engineering experience.

Must have at least two (2) years of experience with the following:
