Burns & McDonnell Scoping/Owner's Engineer (OE) Team – Substation Civil Lead-General (Multiple Locations) in Chattanooga, Tennessee

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Substation Civil engineer in Atlanta, GA; Charlotte, NC; Chattanooga, TN; Aiken, SC; or Nashville, TN office locations. The substation civil engineer will report directly to the Program Owner’s Engineer (OE) or scoping Lead on a large capital investment program with a major Southeast utility. Other key responsibilities will include:
Responsible for supporting Substation Physical and Civil lead representing Owner on all Substation physical-civil engineering and technical matters pertinent to the scope of program. Includes supporting the Substation Physical and Civil Leads on the following:
Issuing technical guidance to design builders on behalf of Owner.
Responding to requests for information from design builders on behalf of Owner.
Monitoring design builders’ adherence to Owner/Program standards, specifications, and best practices via QA reviews.
Develop program specific standards, specifications, and design criteria documents for use by design-builders as it relates to design.
Develop new or revise existing engineering process flows and for design-build contractors to follow to effectively execute goals of program
Act as owner’s engineer in completing quality reviews of civil and structural design aspects completed by the design-build contractors.
This could include reviews of site design, oil containment, and structural deliverables with an emphasis on site design and oil containment
Responsible for scoping out the Substation Physical-Civil portion of all Substation projects.
This could include scoping related to substation site selection and development (grading and storm considerations for both new and existing Substations), oil containment/SPCC mitigation, and structural design related to steel structure and foundation needs for the Substations.
Collaborate with other discipline teammates to successfully scope all Transmission projects.
Responsible for working with Owner stakeholders, design staff, and subject matter experts to develop full understanding of client design practices, standards, and specifications as it relates to Substation Civil and Structural needs.
Interface and work with client’s project management leadership team to provide regular, timely updates.
Collaborate with project team to successfully mitigate issues and achieve seamless execution.
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
Or Bachelor of Science in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.
3 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred.
Successful completion (i.e.passing) FE or EIT preferred.
Strong knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
