The Networks, Integration, & Automation (NIA) Department Manager (based in Dallas or Fort Worth) will provide overall leadership, vision, and managerial direction for establishing Burns & McDonnell’s position within the Dallas-Fort Worth region in the Networks, Wireless, Infrastructure, Fiber, Automation, and Electric Vehicles markets.

The leader in this role will also help grow the department in a profitable manner based upon Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

Overall areas of responsibility include business development, recruiting, business planning, training, mentoring, quality, and safety. This position will work closely with the NIA Vice President and the other NIA leads from the various Regional Offices on project staffing, resource development, and pursuits across the entire business line.

Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties assigned as needed:

Organizational

+

  • Advocate for safety within the department.

  • Coordinate work for the NIA department including making assignments and reviewing performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.

  • Support overall Regional Office development and resource coordination between groups.

  • Interpret policies, procedures, and goals of the organization to department.

  • Assist in the development and execution of the DFW T&D Business Plan.

  • Prepare and monitor the department staff growth, billability, and expenditure of funds for staffing hours, supplies, training, and equipment.

  • Support diversity and other office/business line initiatives.

  • Facilitate profitable and sound growth of the department by coordinating with the T&D Regional Global Practice Manager and other Department Managers to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.

  • Support Human Resources on educational partnerships and internship programs.

Business Development

+

  • Assist the NIA Vice President in providing overall oversight and direction for business development. Work with the appropriate personnel on the development and administration of the NIA Business Plan.

  • Work closely with the NIA Vice President to oversee the development of NIA work with new clients as well as the expansion of NIA work with existing clients.

  • Identify NIA opportunities, provide oversight and enthusiasm for a coordinated and disciplined pursuit process including thoughtful “go/no-go” decisions, win strategies, proposal staffing, development of pricing, contract Ts&Cs, and risk-reviews.

Personnel

  • Where needed, serve as project manager for key clients, new clients, or where new lines of business are being developed.

  • Provide management and career development to department personnel. Responsible for the development of leadership within the NIA department and for assisting with the overall leadership development within the office.

  • Organize, lead, and conduct the annual performance appraisal process for department staff.

  • Facilitate a thriving work environment that facilitates the recruitment, development, and retention of the market’s top-talent.

Technical/Execution/Production

  • Serve as the technical advisor, providing senior-level input and evaluation on NIA projects.

  • Advocate for quality and ensure that corporate and T&D quality initiatives are implemented, including coordinating with the appropriate teams to assign quality control reviewers.

  • Advance and develop department tools and workflows to increase efficiency of designs, specification development, and project execution.

  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years related professional experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer is preferred.

  • Proven leadership in developing and implementing vision.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and analytical/problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.

  • Ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, poise, and discernment.

  • Proven planning, organizing, and execution skills.

  • Understanding of electric utility industry and NIA market preferred.

  • Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
