Burns & McDonnell Assistant Structural Engineer - Water (Denver) in Denver, Colorado

Description

The Assistant Structural Engineer will work on project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of municipal and industrial water/wastewater projects. The Assistant Structural Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting structural plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.

Typical structures include concrete vaults and wet-wells, tanks (filters, aeration basins, clarifiers, etc.), and pump stations. Typical building types to support our projects are masonry, pre-cast concrete, and pre-engineered metal buildings. In addition to design of new structures, condition assessments of existing facilities and recommendations for rehabilitation is expected. Perform structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

  • Modify and review production drawings to meet project requirements.

  • Design structural components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the structural engineering services industry.

  • Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.

  • Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. 

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in Engineering may be substituted for one year of experience.

  • Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred. 

  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred. 

  • Involvement on campus or in the community. 

  • Basic knowledge in standard structural engineering techniques, principles and procedures.   

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Basic computer skills include structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA), AutoCAD and BIM (e.g., Revit and Tekla).

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.

Salary Range

70,000-90,000

The expected salary range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
