Burns & McDonnell Senior Civil Engineer - Environmental Services (Denver) in Denver, Colorado
Burns & McDonnell is looking for a Professional Engineer with experience leading solid waste related projects to add to our Environmental Services Engineering team. As part of the Environmental Services Practice, this position will support the development and growth of our Denver group and overall practice. The chosen candidate will lead designs for civil infrastructure, stormwater, solid waste, remediation, and a variety of other projects throughout the proposal, design, and construction process. The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated and perform the following duties:
Execute civil engineering methods and practices in the preparation of bid-ready engineering designs, plans, specifications, estimates, and reports.
Apply knowledge of commonly used civil concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the civil engineering services industry.
Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects to find or develop non-standard design solutions.
Perform quality review of project documents for a variety of projects and project-related data as required to verify design compliance with project, client, and industry standards, including constructability.
Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors and develop new business opportunities.
Assist with the development of cost proposals and qualification statements for marketing efforts.
Assist with the development and management of project budget estimates.
Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the engineering practice. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
Maintain adherence to quality assurance process.
Maintain effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
Maintain compliance with company and site safety policies.
Organize and maintain all design documents and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
Perform internal and external oral presentations.
Other duties, as assigned.
Bachelor of Science in Civil, Environmental, or related engineering degree from an ABET accredited program.
Minimum 7 years of engineering experience (8-10 years preferred); with design and construction administration.
Professional Engineering License (PE) required.
Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D and ability to mentor staff in using the software.
Understanding of hydrologic/hydraulic calculations using TR55, HY-8, HEC programs, etc.
Excellent communication skills: verbal and technical writing
Capability of executing all phases of projects including planning, preparation of specifications & drawings, construction administration and field observation on occasion.
Strong technical capabilities with the development of contract documents including a thorough understanding of all civil engineering concepts
Strong commitment to working in a team environment
Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
Strong attention to detail and company quality control procedures.
Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
40-hr HAZWOPER certification preferred
Available for project related and marketing travel, as needed (10% travel)
$145,050 - $185,550
The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
