Burns & McDonnell Staff Civil Engineer - Environmental Services (Denver) in Denver, Colorado
Burns & McDonnell’s office in Centennial, CO, is actively seeking a Staff Civil Engineer to support and execute civil design projects focused mainly on solid waste and remediation. The chosen candidate will lead designs for the group’s civil/environmental engineering team and will enjoy challenging work with significant project variety. Be on a team that solves our client’s issues and problems for environmental and engineering practices encompassing federal, state, municipal, and private development projects.
The Civil Engineer will work on an integrated design team within our Environmental Services Global Practice to perform the following duties:
Use Autodesk Civil 3D to complete designs using 3D modelling tools.
Create detailed construction drawings using applicable standards, sketches, and design information.
Produce and execute rough sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects for completion by others.
Perform hydrologic/hydraulic calculations using TR55, HY-8, HEC programs, etc.
Performing other engineering calculations.
Write engineering specifications.
Execute a variety of assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components and refining rough sketches.
Complete and review design drawings within scope, budget and schedule.
Incorporate schedules, budgets and project criteria into civil design and layouts.
Organize and maintain all design documents and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
Conduct field construction oversight.
All other duties as assigned.
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
Or Bachelor of Science in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Master of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering may be substituted for 1-year experience.
3 years of civil engineering experience required. 5 years of consulting preferred.
Successful completion (i.e. passing) FE or EIT required.
Completion of PE license is preferred.
Strong knowledge of standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Proficient with design programs (e.g. Civil 3D, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), GIS, etc.)
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
