Description

Burns & McDonnell's rapidly growing Water Practice is in search of a Staff Instrumentation and Control Engineer. The Staff Instrumentation and Control Engineer designs, specifies, and implements SCADA and I&C systems associated with municipal and industrial water/wastewater treatment facilities (drinking water plants, sanitary sewer plants, pump stations, etc.). This position will require 25-50% travel.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead or assist in the execution of complex projects requiring the use of advanced techniques for the preparation of construction contracts, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and studies from inception to completion.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplined teams and be able to effectively work across multiple offices.

  • Development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), typical control schematics, instrumentation sizing and selection, process control programing, and panel layout diagrams.

  • Setup, configuration and troubleshooting of operator workstations, historians, and HMI servers, for operational technology (OT) networks: including all process control programing, communication interfaces, modems, radios, signal converters and fiber optics.

  • Manage third party control system suppliers to comply with the control system design and delivery requirements, including participating in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).

  • Travel to job sites across Mountain states for startup and commissioning activities and support multiple control system software's and platforms.

  • Stay current with control system and cyber security knowledge and certifications, as necessary.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for 1-year experience.

  • 3 years of related experience required (5 years of system integration experience including programming PLC, OIT, HMI, and SCADA in water waste/water or similar industries preferred).

  • Demonstrate experience in the following control system platforms at minimum: Rockwell/Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE PLC’s & HMI platforms.

  • 1 year of construction startup experience preferred.

  • Successful completion (i.e.passing) FE or EIT preferred.

  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs and other analysis programs.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

Compensation Range

$110,000 - $165,000

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
