The Mechanical Life Sciences Section Manager is responsible for the managerial direction and leadership of the mechanical engineering section and resources in the Global Facilities division within Greenville, SC. This role will be supporting the life sciences market in the following sectors (pharmaceuticals, biotech, medical devices), general manufacturing, and laboratories. This includes supporting and executing business strategy, developing high-performance teams, and promoting the Burns & McDonnell culture, values and mission. The Section Manager will lead the section in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.
Provide leadership to the team; direct and coordinate work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of engineering staff.
Responsible for profitable growth of the section; ensuring staff levels, staff loading, and staff assignments meet project requirements while maintaining billable goals.
Implement, apply and support company, global practice and/or regional office programs and initiatives; successfully navigating and managing change within the section.
Provide expert-level technical, design guidance and support.
Strong understanding and knowledge of mechanical engineering in various industries
Establish or review budgets and schedules for Global Facilities (GFS) related proposals
Provide guidance to lead GFS engineers and designers relative to set-up and structure of staffing and execution approach on projects including interface with other disciplines
Monitor progress on GFS-related projects and provide input into areas of concern and direction or redirection to enhance achievement of project schedules, productivity goals, budgets, and quality
Serve as the technical advisor and provide senior-level input and evaluation of project development and delivery and EPC bid activities
Serve as project manager for studies, project development/delivery and project definition efforts.
Assist GFS Section staff with project setup in MIS / ECOSYS, coordinating with the client / team, handling billing / invoicing, change orders, project closeout, etc.
Support selection and definition of creative strategies (performance, technical, and commercial) to enhance EPC bids and selection on IDIQ/MSA/On-Call Contract pursuits.
Support EPC proposals in evaluating commercial terms and technical requirements related to performance and performance testing for the EPC contract and coordinating flowdown of similar requirements to subcontractors and equipment vendors to mitigate BMcD risks.
Assign work and review GFS Section staff performance to ensure quality and efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
Recruitment, development, training and retention of GFS Section personnel.
Supervise workflow development and preparation and maintenance of tools and standards for execution of technical development on projects.
Supervise workflow development and preparation and maintenance of tools and standards for detailed design.
Supervise maintenance of cost databases related to capital and O&M for GFS-related work.
Supervise QA/QC process adherence
Act as a coordinator/liaison with regional offices and provide guidance regarding project approach, contacts and expert consultants, availability of personnel for quality reviews, and other similar activities related to GFS project technical development.
Provide administrative, supervisory and technical direction for Cooperative Education Students and Summer Interns assigned to the GFS global practice including assignment of work, coordinating site trips, and other associated functions.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 5 years related professional experience in design and/or project management.
Experience on previous EPC Life Sciences projects preferred.
Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.
Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.
PE Registration preferred.
Must be expert in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
