Burns & McDonnell Business Diversity Program Director - Office Administration (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri


The Business Diversity Program Director is responsible for leadership and direction of enterprise wide initiatives to engage Small & Diverse businesses in procurement activities supporting both project and corporate requirements. This role will develop and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders necessary to help achieve the company’s business objectives.

  • Responsible for developing and implementing creative and thorough strategies to create equitable access to meaningful business opportunities that advance the diversity of the company’s supplier base to support project and corporate procurement requirements.

  • Collaborate with internal clients to identify potential business needs and opportunities and to eliminate barriers that obstructs Small/Diverse businesses from competition. Understand the project objectives and provide recommendations that both maximize business and have a positive impact on the local community.

  • Knowledgeable and stays current concerning Business Diversity market intelligence including regulatory changes and trends. Develop relationships with other Business Diversity leaders to share best practices and ideas.

  • Oversee delivery of enterprise wide client reporting and company compliance. Monitor, analyze, interpret and report program results. Uses knowledge of business and data to discover and/or anticipate problems or opportunities where data can be leveraged to address the need.

  • Execute timely responses to RFPs

  • Establish collaborative relationships with potential business partners and assess the quality of their goods or services. Invite industry appropriate firms to be involved in the company’s bidding and purchasing process.

  • Develop targeted workshops, training sessions and other efforts to further develop the capabilities and capacity of Small/Diverse firms.

  • Organize outreach activities designed to source potential Small/Diverse partners.

  • Active involvement with industry recognized local and national organizations working to advance Business Diversity.

  • Coordinate the participation of other internal team members.

  • Provide updates to the Business Diversity page on the company intranet.

  • Embrace Differences. Demonstrate objectivity and openness to others' views. Value different perspectives.

  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for direct report(s).

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized college or university with major course work in Public Administration, Business or a closely related field.

  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in Small/Diverse procurement activities in engineering and construction industry.

  • Three (3) years of supervisory/management experience.

  • Strong understanding of Small/Diverse business rules, government regulations, practices, classifications, certifications, Tier II expenditures and client expectations.

  • Advanced technology skills using Microsoft Office, previous Oracle experience preferred.
