Description

The Director of Sustainability Consultancy Services is responsible for leading and directing projects for the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), and Sustainability section of the Global Practice. This position is responsible for the successful business and strategic development of the ESG and Sustainability market. The Director role will lead, scope, and coordinate opportunities across Burns and McDonnell’s wide range of clients to provide services related to environmental, social and governance, and sustainability. This position will grow the practice in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell’s core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and overall outstanding service.

  • Direct ESG and Sustainability business planning activities and be responsible for achieving established targets and standards related to ESG Consulting.

  • Provide leadership and training to Burns & McDonnell technical staff to build overall qualifications in ESG consulting.

  • Work with a team of sustainability solutions engineers, scientists, and communications specialists to plan and implement sustainable projects to meet our client’s goals.

  • Support development of the marketing/communications strategy and preparation of marketing materials related to ESG sustainability for both internal and external use.

  • Provide direction for the development of thought leadership related to ESG and sustainability for both internal and external use.

  • Oversee the development of ESG tools and workflows to increase efficiency in designs, specification development, and project execution for ESG planning activities.

  • Prepare proposals and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads for ESG and sustainability consulting services.

  • Develop and expand client relationships that generate repeat business to grow. Lead and partner with clients in developing sustainability strategies leading to sustainable project development opportunities.

  • Participate and lead sustainability planning sessions with our clients and develop plans to assist with plans to achieve their net zero, sustainability, ESG and other goals. This includes strategy development, materiality assessments, metrics.

  • Provide detailed information to our clients on various ESG reporting programs to support their sustainability goals and reporting.

  • Provide industry expertise with respect to the competition’s ESG and sustainability service offerings.

  • Present monthly financial information to leadership including sales and revenue forecasts.

  • Approve strategies for cross-selling consulting services across the organization.

  • Responsible for ensuring alignment and support of Regional Office staff development, quality control and resource coordination.

  • Recruits, hires, develops, and retains outstanding employee-owners.

  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for selected department or direct reports.

  • Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes, and goals of the organization to Department Managers.

  • Adheres and responsible for Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.

  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Responsible for diversity initiatives.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in sustainability, environmental policy, climate change, planning, engineering, or related field. Master's Degree and/or MBA preferred. A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, preferably in Sustainability and ESG planning consulting.

  • Experience in sustainability and/or climate resilience planning for public and/or private industries

  • Experience with the design and implementation of reduction and diversification programs related to energy, air emissions, waste, and water.

  • Experience in client development, business development, proposal development, and project management. Understanding of pertinent accreditations and certifications in sustainability and carbon emissions.

  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.

  • Knowledge of GHG Protocol and ESG disclosure requirements and applicability to various industries and organizations.

  • Extensive experience performing and facilitating informative and engaging presentations and thought leadership (blogs, articles, podcasts, etc.)

  • Advance experience with open dialogue and consulting with clients on sustainability and ESG topics.

  • Broad understanding of current sustainability topics including climate resilience, emerging technologies, and renewables, zero waste planning, net zero and implementation.

  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
