Burns & McDonnell Early Careers Recruiter (Kansas City, MO) in Kansas City, Missouri


The Early Careers Recruiter is responsible for sourcing & pipelining of university and early career talent including the full-life cycle recruiting of interns, new graduates and early career professionals across all market segments and locations. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who thrives in a fast paced, high-volume environment and enjoys engaging, recruiting, and hiring top talent for Burns & McDonnell and/or it's family of companies.

Specific responsibilities include the following, with other duties as assigned:

  • Develop a clear understanding of our business groups and associated staffing needs to anticipate and plan for current and future sourcing activities.

  • Collaborate with hiring managers to understand specific position requirements, job responsibilities, and how they relate to business goals.

  • Open requisitions, determine sourcing strategies, screen resumes, interview qualified candidates, collect, analyze and track interview feedback

  • Develops a pipeline of qualified, diverse talent through sourcing channels, recruitment campaigns, internet searches, networking groups, social media and referrals

  • Prepare offer details, extend offers, proactively communicate with candidates post-acceptance and throughout onboarding process, ensuring a seamless and positive new hire experience

  • Stay informed of trends, new sourcing tools, technologies, best practices to continue to position Burns & McDonnell as a top employer of Early Career talent.

  • Develop relationships with university representatives, career services, faculty and staff, as well as, partner with local and national student organizations to pipeline, identify and recruit top student talent into the organization with a strong focus on diversity and inclusion.

  • Manage recruitment events (including career fairs, information sessions, classroom presentations and networking events) from planning through execution at targeted colleges, universities and partner organizations, engaging internal stakeholders and hiring managers to promote the Burns & McDonnell brand on-campus and in the community.

  • Assist with the planning and execution of the intern program in coordination with the Intern Program Manager, ensuring a positive internship experience and high rate of conversion of interns into full-time opportunities.

  • Prepare documentation related to potential leads and candidate assessments; utilize and maintain related files and systems for tracking, analysis, and reporting purposes.


  • Bachelor's degree in a human resources, business or related field

  • Minimum of 1 year of sourcing or recruiting experience

  • Experience with applicant tracking systems and Internet-based sourcing tools is required. Knowledge of and experience with Yello, Handshake, LinkedIn and/or Taleo preferred.

  • Ability to develop creative and innovative sourcing strategies

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and research skills

  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws

  • Must demonstrate ability to build strong relationships and provide excellent customer service

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly present complex information

  • Work independently with a sense of urgency, the capacity to multi-task/prioritize and ability to handle confidential information
