Burns & McDonnell Electronic Security Systems Intern - Corporate Security (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri
The position of Integrated Security Systems intern is responsible for assisting Corporate Security with day to day company security operations, including but limited to upkeep of access control systems for Burns & McDonnell facilities, learning to program integrated security systems during hardware equipment installations, testing of existing integrated security systems, supporting the commissioning of new installations projects in accordance to Burns & McDonnell standards; Interns will support the design of integrated security systems at regional and project offices and work with contractors to ensure good engineering project quality in order to maintain a high level of internal customer satisfaction. This position will be located in-office at World Headquarters in Kansas City.
Support and maintain all integrated electronic security systems at all Burns & McDonnell facilities to include new installation projects and existing systems preventative maintenance programs.
Support project manager in facility renovation projects in which the design, installation repair and replacement of electronic alarm, access control systems, intercom technology, visitor management software, and video security systems are included in the scope of projects.
Assist in electronic security equipment installation, testing, commissioning, and system programming in accordance with BMcD’ s policy and standards locally and through remote coordination, report project status to direct chain of command, regional support assets and internal customers on a periodic and as needed basis.
Assisting and providing technical support to internal end users and other company supported departments while conducting systems troubleshooting and problem-solving.
Support on-site internal client training as needed through Microsoft Teams.
Escalate system troubleshooting to vendor onsite maintenance program tickets as needed.
Assist in exploring, testing, and implementing new security technology to meet the evolving needs of the business.

Pursuit of Associates or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or other related field.
Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.
Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
Basic IT knowledge in one or more of the following areas, hardware, network, access control or database systems preferred. Previous operator level use of systems will be considered.
Demonstrated ability to learn new IT based systems is preferred.
Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
