Burns & McDonnell IT Financial Analyst - Information Technology (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri
The IT Financial Analyst role is responsible for analysis of the technology budget including the IT budget and other GPs. The Analyst will work with the IT Finance team, service owners, and the CIO to create, monitor, and maintain the technology budget. The Analyst will work with service owners to understand and chargeback to the various Global Practices their software and service charges based on utilization. They will need to be available to analyze financial data, forecast, and summarize complex data sets for presentations.
Budget and tracking actual spend
Assist with enterprise technology budget by gathering key inputs from service owners and analyzing previous period spending across operational and capital expenditures
Complete monthly analysis of technology based on actuals compared to budget. Summarize information for service owners and create projections that are helpful for managing budgets including identifying outliers.
Complete monthly analysis for accounting that includes variance report with details.
Create materials and present quarterly updates on technology spending for executive management.
Regularly meet with service owners to create partnerships, gather informational updates, and provide summarized information.
Monitor and update information on prepaid software
Maintain and improve philosophy of expense methods including allocations, chargeback, and charge.
Create Bill of IT for Global Practices and prepare analysis
Automate as much as possible for repeatable information.
Recovery analysis- ensure the chargeback pricing based on usage is comparable to actuals
Create datasets of software utilization leveraging various tools including vendor portals
Maintain and enhance chargeback philosophy and standards
Automate data delivery for monthly chargebacks for the general ledger
Engage in cost savings strategies across multiple Global Practices and IT
Other ITBM Responsibilities
Complete financial analysis for software evaluation and comparison. Evaluations may include license analysis, the total cost of ownership, and return on investment.
Assist in the development of financial models, collect and evaluate data, make appropriate assumptions, analyze results and make recommendations.
Create and provide assistance for requisitions within ITBM and the IT department
Collects and maintains accurate software licensing information to address budgeting, software compliance and inventory, contracts, and cost. Forecasts IT asset investments and service costs and provides recommendations.
Analyze project business cases, challenge financial spending, savings, and benefit assumptions, and assist in the formulation and understanding of project benefits in the market context of competitive pressures and business challenges.
Manage multiple license types, software suites, entitlements, upgrade and downgrade of licenses to ensure best-fit licensing
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, etc. Applicable years of experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. Bachelor's degree. Preferred in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration (MBA is preferred)
Minimum 8 years of experience required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
3 or more years of experience in budget, capital management, accounting, or finance. Experience in a technology environment.
Ability to see “big picture" strategic view as well as process details.
Ability to work with various systems and data sources to gather and assimilate required information.
Very detailed oriented and reliable for accurate information.
Expert in Microsoft Excel or PowerBI and familiar with other Microsoft Office tools.
Work experience with Oracle ERP systems is preferred.
Experience with IT technology business management and tools such as Apptio and TBM certification.
