Burns & McDonnell IT Financial Cloud Management Analyst - Information Technology (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri


As the IT Financial Cloud Management Analyst, you will provide business/financial support for our cloud services as well as cost optimization for the IT department. The successful candidate will leverage their financial, cloud management, and IT experience to identify and help manage cost drivers that align with the organization’s strategies. You will deliver insights and delivered synthesized, actionable facts to our IT department and Global Practices. You will also assist with forecasting, allocating and budgeting IT expenditures including cloud spend.


  • Maintain cloud usage transparency to educate and trend costs partnering with business, IT, and financial stakeholders.

  • Oversee cloud billing and manage the cloud cost communications

  • Provide cost optimization recommendations

  • Support team in understanding their cloud expenditures based on their business goals and budget

  • Produce insights that can be shared with and actioned by Management

  • Create KPIs to support business decision making

  • Partner with our Infrastructure and Architecture team as well as internal financial analysts

  • Provide actional intelligence to right-size and scale services efficiently across public clouds

  • Build out best practices and develop strategies for FinOps

  • Assist with IT department financials including budgeting, forecasting, and analysis of actuals

  • Assist with Bill of IT which provides a breakout of IT charge expenditures

  • Effectively communicate with Global Practices on cost drivers for Bill of IT as well as actionable items for their strategy developments

Skills Needed:

  • Experience in cloud expense management using FinOps disciplines within the Azure platform as well as familiarity with AWS and other public cloud

  • Experience with Cloud billing and cost management tools and process

  • Experience in cost management tactics such as Reserved Instances and Committed Use Discounts

  • Experience with advanced Excel functions

  • Knowledge of financial principles and business analytics

  • Strong ability to analyze and interpret data and provide insights

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and experience presenting formally and informally


  • FinOps Cloud Practitioner and TBM (Technology Business Management) certification is highly desirable

  • Experience with Financial analysis tools and ERP systems

  • Experience with tools such as Azure Portal, Flexera, Apptio, OpenIT, Aternity, and ServiceNow preferred

  • Experience with software models for engineering, construction, or related industries


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, etc. Applicable years of experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
