The Project Costing team is a mix of financial reporting, variance analysis, preparation of monthly and year-end journal entries, and accounting systems. The team plays a key role in the success of our overall Accounting/Finance department and partners with numerous other groups within Accounting and outside the department with direct business lines. In this hands-on role, the Project Costing Staff Accountant will be joining a fast-paced and team-oriented environment where they can act as a subject matter expert across a variety of accounting metrics and KPIs that drive our business.
Job duties include:
Execute processes and tasks in support of month-end close and financial reporting, including reconciling the projects’ subledger to the General Ledger.
Support preparation of reports, analysis, and presentation of cost accounting data for the various levels of leadership to enable them to make the best business decisions.
Coordinate with other teams including Systems, IT, Contract Analysts, Financial Reporting, and any others needed to ensure a timely and accurate financial close.
Support special projects that focus on innovation and process improvement.
Participate in user testing for system patches and upgrades.
Perform weekly/monthly reconciliation of interface transmissions between the Projects Module and other accounting modules, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll.
Support external audit requests, as assigned by the manager.
Participate in the formal and informal training of project managers.
Ad hoc reports and analysis as requested by manager and Accounting leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Minimum of six (6) years’ accounting/auditing experience
Public accounting experience preferred
Engineering & Construction industry experience preferred
Superior computer skills with particular expertise in Excel
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivator
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
