The Project Delivery Director is the key to success. As the leader of our project management team, this position is responsible for providing direction and oversight on all aspects of project delivery processes, including establishing and implementing best practices and standards. This role collaborates closely with resource managers to identify and assign technical resources that will facilitate the timely and successful delivery of projects, all while meeting Burns & McDonnell's financial, strategic, and cultural expectations. With years of experience in senior-level management and a proven track record of delivering results, our ideal candidate has the strategic vision and hands-on leadership skills needed to drive our project delivery operations forward.
Essential Responsibilities:
Manages development and execution of overall Project Delivery strategic business initiatives to achieve goals and objectives.
Leads a team of senior, proven large-project PMs; supervises and mentors transportation PMs to achieve overall project objectives. Responsible for project manager development, including, but not limited to; recruitment, hiring, training and development, retention and succession, and conducting performance and compensation reviews.
Directs and coordinates the Department ensuring efficient and cost-effective utilization of staff.
Provides direction and supports project related business development efforts in identification and vetting of prospective clients and projects. Responsible for business development activities aligning with business goals.
Collaborates with Department and Section managers to identify and develop task and project managers not in direct reporting line.
Establishes and monitors processes and best practices to drive successful project delivery, including financial performance, proactive management of cash, budget, schedule and project scope to ensure adherence to project goals and completion to the client satisfaction and firm’s profitability.
Oversees the development of department tools and workflows to increase efficiency in project execution for Department. Works closely with Office Operations, Quality, and Financial Managers to proactively identify and mitigate delivery issues.
Engages PMs for constructive solutions and identifies & communicates inconsistencies and/or related issues to office leadership.
Sets priorities, obtains commitments, and engages required resources through collaboration with Department Managers (DM) and/or Section Managers (SMs) as well as other Regional Offices and Global Practices. Excellent collaboration and communication with DMs and SMs will be critical to resourcing projects and achieving financial, quality and staff development goals.
Directs oversight and management of Project Management budget and expenditure of funds.
Achieves stated financial performance targets and standards for Project Delivery department.
Assesses validity of project work plans including schedule, budget, and staffing including Project Managers and Principals in Charge.
Motivates others, instills an eagerness to achieve goals and fosters a culture of inclusion, successfully guiding the delivery of projects.
Supports office budgeting and reporting process by providing timely, accurate information related to performance for the entire portfolio of projects.
Engages in projects to maintain 60% chargeability.
Recruits, hires, develops, and retains outstanding employee-owners.
Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for selected department or direct reports.
Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes and goals of the organization to department personnel.
Adheres and responsible for compliance with Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.
Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The ideal applicant has a wealth of experience, with at least 15 years of proven success in project, operations, and construction management. They're an expert in building business opportunities, and know how to lead a project team to deliver measurable results. With a keen eye for risk management and claims avoidance, they have a track record of successful project delivery and minimal change orders. This candidate is a master of contract negotiation and administration, with a talent for developing scope and fee structures that satisfy all parties. They're skilled at project work planning and scheduling, cost management, bid development, and contractor outreach. And with experience managing staff, they're ready to hit the ground running and take your organization to the next level.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or related degree from an accredited program. A minimum of 15 years relevant consulting experience, preferably in the engineering or construction industry or project management.
Expert experience in client and business development.
Expert experience in managing projects, which includes proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.
Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated success as to budget, savings and/or profit margins in completed projects.
Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.
Excellent planning and analytical skills.
Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including the use of Microsoft Project or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Proven experience in delivering Alternative Delivery and Construction projects.
Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus.
