Burns & McDonnell Project Manager, Change Management - 1898 & Co. (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri


1898 & Co., a part of Burns & McDonnell, seeks an energetic, accomplished Project Manager to lead successful consulting engagements with clients in the fields of utility grid modernization, zero-emissions mobility, change management, strategic asset management, and/or grid management services. This position will primarily lead the execution of our growing portfolio of work across our customer bases serving as the client’s primary point of contact, ensuring client satisfaction through high-quality delivery. This candidate will be responsible for managing engagement schedules, resources, subcontracts, and budgets to drive profitability and growth based on 1898 & Co.'s core values of client satisfaction, entrepreneurship, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and overall outstanding service.


  • Plan, organize, and direct management consulting engagements, including the overall negotiation, execution, cost, schedule, and quality of delivery that meets or exceeds client expectations.

  • Facilitate workshop sessions with senior-level client teams to understand client requirements, uncover needs and develop action plans.

  • Leverage strategic thinking to anticipate client problems and work with senior consultants to provide innovative and impactful solutions.

  • Coordinate with clients as the first and primary point of contact for all project-related communications.

  • Coordinate with internal and external subject matter expert for the pursuit and delivery of management consulting projects.

  • Compile, distribute, and present status reports, including project progress, schedule, cost, and budget impacts to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Lead and/or participate in people change management workstreams.

  • Lead and/or participate in business process reengineering, organizational assessment, or other workstreams.

  • Establish project teams, coordinate activities amongst multiple disciplines, and ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of skilled resources.

  • Manage the delivery of third-party vendors and subcontractors, including contracts, scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Provide performance feedback to personnel managers for project team members as appropriate.

  • Identify upselling and cross-selling opportunities.

  • Manage prime contract, subcontractor, and supplier invoicing process.

  • Provide managerial direction and work assignments to consultants and analysts.

  • Contribute to the authoring of thought leadership and case studies pertaining to engagements such as blogs, articles, white papers, and conference presentations.

  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, computer science, business, or related field from an accredited curriculum. Graduate degree or MBA preferred.

  • Minimum 7 years of consulting, utility industry, or industry product experience.

  • Consulting experience preferred.

  • Proven ability to lead, educate, and train a team of consultants and analysts.

  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and presentation skills.

  • General business and financial knowledge.

  • Practical project management skills.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
