The Section Manager is responsible for the managerial direction and leadership of the section and resources within a global practice or regional office. This includes supporting and executing business strategy, developing high performance teams, and promoting the Burns & McDonnell culture, values and mission. The Section Manager will lead the section in a dynamic manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

The Business Initiatives job family (coordinator/strategist/manager) was created within KC T&D at the beginning of 2022 to provide support to drive the successful completion and rollout of initiatives important to the advancement of our business operations. What started as one Business Initiatives Strategist, has quickly grown into five members of the job family within KC T&D. These professionals actively support the successful the completion and rollout of many initiatives that drive our business forward. With the growth of this job family, there is a recognized need for Business Initiative Section Manager to provide the focused leadership and development of this new career path while also providing leadership in driving better people change management practices to our operations. The specific areas of responsibility include the following:

  • Leverage KC T&D’s strategic direction to manage the prioritization of staffing business operation initiatives.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the section.

  • Recruitment, development, training and retention of staff.

  • Recruit, interview and hire additional staff as needed to achieve our KC T&D objectives and initiatives.

  • Further develop, set expectations, and manage the development of the various roles in the Business Initiatives career path.

  • Primary KC T&D liaison with the corporate change management team. Providing guidance and oversight to manage the successful deployment of corporate change within KC T&D.

  • Lead consultation with Global Practice and Department leaders to identify strategic business opportunities, and to assess and convey how the team can support the successful execution of capturing the opportunities.

  • Create guidelines, templates, and procedures necessary for planning and executing our business initiatives.

  • Oversee the successful development, communication, and rollout for KC T&D Initiatives.

  • Oversee the management and resolution of resistance points to successful initiative rollout.

  • Manage the tracking, monitoring, and reporting of initiative metrics.

  • Lead and present the initiative status of various engagement approaches, impacts, benefits, and barriers to influence the adaptation of initiatives.

  • Coordinate and partner with corporate communications to align business initiative implementation activities with company communication channels.

  • Initiate and present training to maximize key stakeholders' knowledge of new and existing business initiatives.

  • Prepare and present workload, forecasts, and financial reports.

  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluations for the section.

  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Responsible for diversity initiatives.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.

  • Prosci Change Practitioner Certification strongly preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years related professional experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience developing and executing strategies.

  • Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Position requires the ability to influence, lead, and manage change thoughtfully and positively.

  • Must possess strong change management skills and a strategic perspective.

  • Prior marketing and/or communication experience, including developing and executing communication plans.

  • Experienced in standard change management techniques, principles, and procedures.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
