Burns & McDonnell Staff Mechanical Engineer - Pipelines (California) in Los Angeles, California
Description
The Staff Mechanical Engineer will work with the project team to create world class designs for new installations and modifications on a variety of natural gas, RNG (renewable natural gas), and hydrogen projects, on infrastructure such as transmission pipelines, compressor, M&R (meter and regulator) stations and other areas related to the industry. The Staff Mechanical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the engineering, design and construction phases of various projects, adapting mechanical aspects according to project scope and schedule, client material specifications, state and federal (PHSMA) regulations, and industry best practices. Experience with biogas processing and upgrading systems would support Burns & McDonnell’s RNG practice that focuses on providing exemplary service to various utility, municipal, energy, and industrial clients. Typical assignments include working with multi-disciplinary teams in conducting feasibility studies, due diligence assessments, development of preliminary engineering packages, detailed design, and construction of significant RNG assets for our clients. Experience in anaerobic digestion of agricultural and food waste feedstocks is sought after.
Perform mechanical engineering to support design development of projects from conceptual phase through detailed design completion.
Review and provide markups on design drawings, 3D Model, ISO drawings, etc. for a variety of projects including, but not limited to pipeline, M&R stations, and compressor stations projects.
Engineering of mechanical components, such as bill of materials of pipe, valve, fittings, for project design and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
Applies strong knowledge of commonly used mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical engineering discipline.
Review, analysis, and indexing of pipeline material features
Produce engineering calculations and reports, for example preform hydraulics on pipelines based on material specifications and static head pressure to support hydrostatic pressure test designs.
Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.
Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
Create project specifications.
Create datasheets for procurement packages.
Create procurement packages request for quotes, perform bid evaluations and recommend vendors.
Perform simulations and analysis on preliminary engineering projects. Simulations will be performed using Software such as AFT products, Pipeline Technical Toolbox, Aspen One program, AFT products, etc.
Work closely with other disciplines (Piping, Process, Electrical, I&C, Structural and Civil).
Attend meetings with clients as needed.
Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
Field assignment and travel will be possible.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.
3 years of mechanical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
Basic understanding of the waste to energy industry including existing / emerging markets and demonstrated ability to monitor and communicate new market drivers and regulatory changes.
Successful completion (i.e. passing) FE or EIT preferred.
Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Compensation Range
$114,000.00 - $154,000.00
The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
