Burns & McDonnell Water Regional Global Practice Manager (Florida Region) in Orlando, Florida


This position is responsible for the strategic development and overall leadership of a Regional Global Practice. This includes responsibility for all the Global Practice market segments, to grow the practice in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and overall outstanding service. This position is responsible for the sales, revenue, and income goals for the Global Practice.

Assists in the development of a long-term strategic plan. Identifies, develops, and directs the implementation of business strategies for the practice, including operational strategies and procedures, marketing strategies and pricing strategies, and sales and customer retention strategies. Ability to maximize profit and billability on projects. Achieves stated targets and standards for financial performance. Recruits, hires, develops, and retains outstanding employee-owners. Executes projects meeting or exceeding client expectations for quality, schedule, and budget. Plans, coordinates, communicates, and facilitates activities of several disciplines on projects of all sizes from conception through completion. Successful completion of projects by collaborating and coordinating with internal and external clients. Initiates or assists in proposal development and contract negotiations; they are responsible for coordinating project planning including scoping, budgeting, maintaining schedules, communicating, and managing deadlines and establishing and performing to critical project objectives. Ensures quality and safety standards.

This position is responsible for the line responsibility, strategic development and overall leadership of a Burns & McDonnell Water/Wastewater Practice in the Florida offices and the surrounding region. This position includes the municipal water treatment, wastewater treatment, Industrial WW Treatment and Distribution & Collection market areas which are included in the Burns & McDonnell Water practice. This position will build upon the team in the office to grow the practice in a dynamic and profitable manner based upon Burns & McDonnell’s core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and overall outstanding service. Specific areas of responsibility include the following:

  • Represent the Florida offices on the Burns & McDonnell Water/Wastewater strategic planning team to develop and update the Burns & McDonnell Water/Wastewater Strategic Plan.

  • Facilitate the further refinement of a Florida Office Water/Wastewater Strategic Plan in alignment with the overall office plans and growth.

  • Identify target clients for Burns & McDonnell’s Water/Wastewater practice in many offices in the Florida and the surrounding region.

  • Grow and assemble a team that will do the following in support of growing the practice:

  • Serve as client coordinators for target clients – client coordinators will take primary responsibility for ultimate delivery of services and client satisfaction.

  • Create and cultivate key relationships within target client organizations.

  • Develop a client service plan which includes a vertical relationship plan for the target client organizations.

  • Identify project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with office leadership.

  • Facilitate strategy development to pre-sell projects before RFP release.

  • Lead or facilitate proposal development for project pursuits.

  • Lead contract and negotiations process for projects after selection.

  • Grow a successful water/wastewater design-build practice.

  • Develop relationships with key JV partners.

  • Recruit key project staff with design and management capabilities.

  • Manage a team – define an organization and work with office leadership to build a multidisciplinary team to deliver water/wastewater services to target clients.

  • Establish a Water presence and foster growth in the Florida/Southeastern region.

  • Support initiatives for sales, revenue, and income goals for the Water/Wastewater Practice.

  • Achieve stated targets for financial performance.

  • Assist in development and administration of infrastructure marketing and client maintenance monthly and annual budgets.

  • Develop and implement Florida offices project execution quality and financial controls specific to water/wastewater projects.

  • Conduct routine project management training and champion employee development.

  • Serve as project manager on key projects.

  • Communicate policies, purposes, and goals of the department.

  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for selected department/direct reports.

  • Adheres and responsible for Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.

  • Champion and support diversity initiatives.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field from accredited program.

  • Minimum 10 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the execution and management of a service organization serving the municipal marketplace.

  • This position requires a demonstrated ability to develop business and establish relationships with clients.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, clients, and public officials.

  • Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.

  • Candidates must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.

  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Advanced degree strongly preferred

  • Professional engineering (PE) license required.

  • Position requires travel as required.
