Burns & McDonnell Consultant - Management Consulting - 1898 & Co. (Multiple Locations) in Phoenix, Arizona


1898 & Co., a part of Burns & McDonnell, seeks an energetic, accomplished Consultant to contribute to successful consulting engagements with clients in the fields of utility transformation, operational / organizational improvement, utility grid modernization, zero-emissions mobility, change management, strategic asset management, and/or grid management services. This position will be a primary contributor to the execution of management consulting, technical and/or economic studies, assessments, analysis, and roadmaps. This position will work closely with engagement managers and lead consultants to deliver successful engagements that meet or exceed client expectations and spend time directly engaged with clients to gather data, identify objectives, review deliverables, solicit feedback, clarify assumptions, and facilitate approvals.


  • Work alongside teams of consultants through all phases of delivery, including discovery, requirements gathering, analysis, solution architecture, recommendations, and implementation.

  • Understand, advise, and assess industry and market influences, trends, and technologies.

  • Develop and maintain trusted and open relationships with client and partner leaders at top management levels.

  • Assist in building the firm's expert network of industry and technical resources.

  • Leverage professional network to generate new opportunities through quality delivery and technical excellence.

  • Establish credibility through thought leadership (technical papers, industry publications, digital media, etc.) and participation in industry and technical groups, conferences, etc.

  • Support efforts to increase the firm's market share for consulting services in the chosen area(s) of focus by securing additional projects and clients.

  • Contribute to key pursuits in the chosen area(s) of expertise.

  • Develop and deliver training classes to share knowledge and expertise.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to staff.

  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in economics, business, engineering, computer science, or a related field from an accredited curriculum. Graduate degree or MBA preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of consulting, utility industry, or relevant experience (consulting experience preferred).

  • Relevant certifications in change management, project management, business architecture, or other areas is preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Experience in facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.

  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and presentation skills.

  • General business and financial knowledge.

  • Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines and to be effective in on-site work environments.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt as client needs evolve.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT).

  • Experience in PowerBI, Tableau, or similar business analytics and visualization tools.
