Burns & McDonnell Project Manager - Water Systems (Raleigh) in Raleigh, North Carolina
Burns & McDonnell is a 100% employee-owned company with a 123-year water/wastewater business history. Our Raleigh office is looking for a talented employee-owner to serve as a Project Manager to support our municipal water/wastewater pipelines department.
The Project Manager will lead stormwater planning, modeling and design project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, rehabilitations, and/or replacements for a wide range of stormwater and/or flood protection infrastructure, including green solutions. The Project Manager will lead the Mid-Atlantic region stormwater project team throughout the proposal, design, and construction process, adapting plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs. Coordination of design team for a combination of small and large projects. Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members. Provides advanced technical advice to staff. Regularly meets and corresponds with clients or outside personnel. Assist with marketing and sales responsibilities and other duties as assigned.
Lead stormwater infrastructure and/or flood protection projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements.
Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify, lead and manage key pursuits related to stormwater and flood protection projects in North Carolina as well as the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Prepare, present and manage project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.
Applies expert knowledge of commonly used stormwater concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the stormwater/flood protection engineering services industry. Compiles studies and reports and oversees the development of project specifications.
Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, find's/develops non-standard design solutions.
Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the Mid-Atlantic Region stormwater practice. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
All other duties as assigned.
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program (water or civil curriculum focus preferred)
Minimum 7 years of civil engineering experience (8-10 years preferred) including 3 or more years managing engineering or architectural projects; with design and construction administration of water/wastewater systems preferred.
Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
The successful candidate must be capable of executing all phases of projects including planning, preparation of specifications & drawings, construction administration and field observation on occasion.
Knowledge in standard engineering design techniques and procedures.
Strong computer skills and/or hydraulic civil analysis programs.
Strong project engineering history with a proven record of building client relationships.
Strong technical capabilities with the development of contract documents including a thorough understanding of all engineering concepts related to water transmission mains, water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems design and construction.
Experience with permitting of waterlines and sewer lines through local, state, and federal regulators.
Trenchless and/or tunneling experience is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication.

Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
Must have ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of industry, government and public contracts on project-related matters.
Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
Ability to travel.
