The St. Louis T&D Distribution Modernization Business Line Manager will provide overall leadership, vision, and managerial direction for establishing Burns & McDonnell’s position within the St. Louis and Ohio Valley regional Distribution Modernization market.
This position will have primary accountability for all project management and business development within the Distribution Modernization business for the St. Louis Regional Office. This position will work closely with several other managers within the St. Louis Regional Office and the overall Distribution Modernization leadership team including:
T&D Project Management Director – responsible for overall business development and execution of T&D projects within the region.
T&D Operations Manager – responsible for internal department personnel, operations, and coordination with section and department manager(s) throughout the region
T&D Global Practice Manager – responsible for overall T&D business within the region.
Distribution Modernization Managing Director – responsible for overall Distribution Modernization national practice.
Distribution Modernization Department Manager – accountable for staffing, career development, and direct supervision of all design resources and Project Engineers within the Distribution Modernization department throughout the region.
Specific areas of responsibility include:
Business Development:
Identification and pursuit of Distribution Modernization opportunities for the St. Louis Regional Office and associated Branch offices.
Establishing Burns & McDonnell’s position in the regional Distribution Modernization market through strategic planning and business plan development with a focus on continued growth in market share, profitable growth, and a great work environment.
Providing overall oversight and direction for the business development of the St. Louis and Ohio Valley regional Distribution Modernization markets. Work with the appropriate personnel on the development and administration of the St. Louis Regional Office Distribution Modernization Business Plan.
Oversee the development of strong, work-winning relationships with key Distribution Modernization stakeholders at current and prospective clients.
Lead the development and diversification of the St. Louis and Ohio Valley regional Distribution Modernization markets.
Oversee the development of St. Louis and Ohio Valley Distribution Modernization work with new clients as well as the expansion of Distribution Modernization work with existing clients.
Provide oversight for the pursuit process including “go/no-go” decisions, win strategies, proposal staffing, development of pricing, contract terms and conditions, and risk-reviews.
Personnel:
Coordinate with T&D Operations Manager and Distribution Modernization Department Manager to drive recruitment and development of staff needed to grow Distribution Modernization.
Conducting performance evaluation for selected direct reports and participating in evaluations of other staff as required.
Recruitment and Development of center of excellence leads for individual Distribution Modernization Market segments.
Coordinate with T&D Project Management Director to drive the training and development of project management, business development, and client management skillsets within the team.
Recruitment and development of Distribution Modernization project-managers-in-training and Project Managers.
Management and career development of Distribution Modernization project management personnel.
Accountable for the development of leadership within the Distribution Modernization project management group and for assisting with the overall leadership development within the office.
In coordination with the T&D Operations Manager, provide oversight and direction for Project Managers to invest appropriately in their project teams’ personnel to maximize employee-owner career development, satisfaction, and retention.
Facilitate a thriving work environment that facilitates the recruitment, development, and retainment of the market’s top-talent.
Project Management:
Identify and oversee implementation of effective change management practices on projects. Proactively work through corrective actions where deficiencies are identified.
Overall identification and implementation of project management methods, procedures, tools, and technology to win new work and to execute existing work more profitably.
Oversight and direction for all Distribution Modernization engineering projects performed by the St. Louis/Ohio Valley team including the project management, project planning, scheduling, resource management, budgeting, and the establishment/execution of critical project objectives.
Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
Profitability and financial performance of the St. Louis/Ohio Valley Distribution Modernization projects portfolio. Responsible for overseeing the identification of Distribution Modernization project and portfolio risks including the administration of the associated mitigation strategies to provide for a portfolio of work that meets or exceeds set goals.
Collaboration:
Facilitate collaboration with branch and other regional offices to coordinate business plans and assist in the pursuit of Distribution Modernization opportunities.
Provide for the development and leveraging of a strong ‘Burns and McDonnell India’ team dedicated to the support of St. Louis Distribution Modernization Projects.
Work with the Business Development and Account Management personnel for the development and administration of client and project capture plans.
Coordinate with the Distribution Modernization team to support the development of EPC and Program Management opportunities within the St. Louis and Ohio Valley Distribution Modernization Market.
Safety:
- Adherence and promotion of Burns & McDonnell’s safety programs, training, and policies for all Distribution Modernization projects as well as the promotion and management of the Safety & Health performance of the project team members.
Qualifications
Seven (7) years relevant project management / proven experience developing new clients and opportunities.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, business, or related degree from an accredited program.
Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer or Project Management Professional is preferred.
Strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.
Strong experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software is preferred.
Strong understanding of Burns & McDonnell financials.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
Ability to influence, lead, and manage change thoughtfully and positively.
Ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, poise, and discernment.
Proven planning, collaboration, and facilitation skills.
Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
A basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles is required.
