Burns & McDonnell Regional Global Practice Manager - Construction (Southern California) in San Diego, California
Description
This position is responsible for the strategic development and overall leadership of a Regional Construction Global Practice. This includes responsibility for key Construction market segments, growing the practice in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell’s core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.
Represent and lead the California Construction Practice.
Identify key target clients for BMcD clients in CA and organize a focused sales approach strategy.
Champion strong Safety & Health culture both on project sites and in the office.
Working with key Global Practice and Regional Office leadership, be responsible for the following activities:
Recruit and retain key project staff with construction and overall project delivery capabilities.
Lead a team – define an organization and work with office leadership to build a multidisciplinary team to deliver Construction/EPC and Program Management services to target clients.
Develop and implement multiple construction execution strategies including construction management, multi-sub, self-perform, program management, and professional services.
Assist in development and administration of marketing monthly and annual budgets.
Develop and implement project execution quality and financial controls.
Conduct routine project management training and champion employee development.
May also serve as project manager/director on key EPC projects.
Develop a long-term strategic plan for profitable growth and sustainability of a California construction business.
Identify, develop and direct the profitable implementation of business strategies for the practice, including operational and procedural, marketing, proposal, and sales and customer retention strategies.
Achieve the stated targets and standards for financial performance.
Execute projects that meet or exceed client expectations for safety, quality, schedule and budget.
Plan, coordinate, communicate and facilitate activities of several disciplines on projects of all sizes from conception through completion. Successful completion of projects by collaborating and coordinating with internal and external clients.
Initiate or assist in proposal development and contract negotiations; responsible for coordinating project planning including scoping, budgeting, maintaining schedules, communicating and managing deadlines and establishing and performing to critical project objectives.
Support and lead as required quality and safety standards.
Adhere to Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.
Responsible for maintaining Burns & McDonnell Safety program.
Assemble a team that will do the following in support of growing the practice:
Create and cultivate key relationships within target client organizations.
Develop a client service plan which includes a vertical relationship plan for the target client organizations.
Identify project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with office leadership and construction practice leadership.
Facilitate strategy development to pre-sell projects before RFP release.
Lead or facilitate proposal development for project pursuits.
Lead contract and negotiations process for projects after selection.
Develop relationships with key trade partners and subcontractors.
This position is responsible for the sales, revenue and net income goals for the construction global practice.
Measures of Performance : (These performance measures will be quantified in cooperation with the Global Practice Leadership and Regional Office Leadership):
Attainment of sales, revenue and income goals for the CA Construction Practice.
Growth of the CA Construction Practice based on sales, revenue, net income (profitability) and staff size.
Attainment of billable time targets for Construction staff.
Ability to maximize profitability on projects.
Ability to attract, hire, develop, and retain the best people within the organization.
Ability to execute projects meeting or exceeding client expectations for quality, schedule and budget.
Ability to execute projects in a manner to meet and exceed internal expectations for quality, schedule, labor/cost budgets, project profitability, safety and client satisfaction.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field from an accredited curriculum.
Minimum 12 years of experience in management.
Experience must include at least 5 years successful management of Construction/EPC projects, which would include proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.
Must have ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of government, industry, and public contracts on project-related matters.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills and ability to process and manage project budgets and financial data.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred California construction market experience in one or more of the following industries: Facilities (Commericial Aviation, Consumer Products, Food & Beverage, Life Sciences, Manufacturing); Energy (Battery Storage, Central Utility Plants, Microgrids, Solar); Electrical High-Voltage Transmission & Distribution
