Burns & McDonnell CAD Technician - Transmission & Distribution (San Juan, PR) in San Juan, Puerto Rico

Description

This position will be in the San Juan, Puerto Rico office. The Drafting Technician will assist technical teams of detailers, designers, and engineers to create world class detail on a variety of Electric Transmission and Distribution infrastructure projects. This position will assist in developing computer-aided drafting design solutions and prepare non-routine drawings with complex features using information from rough sketches, detailed engineering notes or brief verbal guidance including electrical, mechanical, and civil-structural disciplines. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients supporting major infrastructure projects and creating a positive impact to the communities being served. This opportunity offers the ability to grow into a designer job series.

Job Duties

  • Assist with preparing drawings and revising existing engineering drawings of basic components from specific sketches or layouts.

  • Assist with preparing and revising plot drawings.

  • Responsible for adhering to company and client drafting standards and procedures.

  • Responsible for adhering to the drafting practices of selected discipline.

  • Assist in drafting design and documentation for various projects.

  • Assist with tasks utilizing standard drafting detail programs.

  • Assist in continuous drafting detail improvement efforts.

  • Research solutions to project concerns and recommend solutions to design problems.

  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and course work in drafting technology or specialized CAD certification or 1-year relevant drafting experience.

  • Associate’s degree or bachelor's degree in computer aided drafting/design preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work in collaborative team environment.

  • Basic understanding of design software such as: AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel to develop the design deliverables. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.

  • Experience with electric utility transmission and distribution and/or industrial infrastructure projects is preferred.

  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and budget.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
