Burns & McDonnell Senior Proposal Strategist - International - Transmission & Distribution (Toronto, Canada) in Toronto, Ontario


The Senior Proposal Strategist will lead pursuits in international markets and provide marketing support to meet in-country business development needs. This individual will be responsible for developing the proposal plan; the Request For Proposal (RFP) release and the process including end game, and checkmate for assigned business development proposals to win work. This position will collaborate with business development and project management leadership to develop distinctive value propositions that enhance our clients' competitive positions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Liase and collaborate with in-country and U.S. teams to meet marketing and business development needs.

  • Follow the pursuit process according to company standards including scheduled reviews of pursuit submissions.

  • Lead and present the proposal plan; draft storyboards, and a proposal/win strategy.

  • Lead proposal team assignments and initial proposal management plan.

  • Recommend proposal solutions during the review of the go/no-go decision and the official proposal kickoff meeting.

  • Assist in the written development of international pursuit-related content and collateral

  • Assist in the management and governance of the pursuit content library

  • Lead and present proposal graphics and visuals.

  • Review and manage post-submittal activities.

  • Lead the interview practice sessions in the Checkmate phase.

  • Lead proposal services per the Checkmate phase to close out.

  • Manage the closing of the project deliverables.

  • Attend professional associations, conferences, and build professional network as needed.

  • All other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communications, business administration, or related field. Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

  • Minimum 9 years experience either as an A/E professional, in marketing, business development, or sales with a professional services firm.

  • Experience in international pursuits preferred.

  • APMP certification, or equivalent, preferred.

  • Experience with the Shipley best practice model preferred.

  • Superior technical writing abilities.

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite strongly preferred.
