Burns & McDonnell Section Manager - Distribution Modernization (New England Region) in Wallingford, Connecticut
Description
This position is responsible for the managerial direction of the Distribution Modernization Section in the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Global Practice (GP) in NEO including recruiting and retention, business development, business planning, training, mentoring, quality, and safety. This position will report to the NEO T&D Regional Operations Director and work closely with the National Distribution Modernization Managing Director, and the other Distribution Modernization leads from the various regionals on project staffing, resource development, and pursuits across the entire business line.
This position will provide leadership and direction to grow the Section in a profitable manner based upon Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and overall outstanding service.
Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties assigned as needed:
Organizational
Advocate for safety within the department.
Coordinate work for the Distribution Modernization department including making assignments and reviewing performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
Support overall Regional Office development and resource coordination between GPs.
Interpret policies, procedures, and goals of the organization to the department.
Assist in the development and execution of the NEO T&D Business Plan.
Prepare and monitor the department’s staff growth, billability, and expenditure of funds for staffing hours, supplies, training, and equipment.
Support diversity and other office/GP initiatives.
Facilitate profitable and sound growth of the department by coordinating with NEO T&D management to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
Support Human Resources on educational partnerships and internship programs.
Business Development
Assist the Distribution Modernization Managing Director in providing overall oversight and direction for business development. Work with the appropriate personnel on the development and administration of the Distribution Modernization Business Plan.
Work closely with the Distribution Modernization Managing Director to oversee the development of Distribution Modernization work with new clients as well as the expansion of Distribution Modernization work with existing clients.
Develop and leverage partnership with Burns & McDonnell India to support Distribution Modernization projects.
Identify Distribution Modernization opportunities, provide oversight and enthusiasm for a coordinated and disciplined pursuit process including thoughtful “go/no-go” decisions, win strategies, proposal staffing, development of pricing, contract Ts&Cs, and risk-reviews.
Personnel
Provide management and career development to department personnel. Responsible for the development of leadership within the Distribution Modernization department and for assisting with the overall leadership development within the office.
Organize, lead, and conduct the annual performance appraisal process for department staff.
Facilitate a thriving work environment that facilitates the recruitment, development, and retention of the market’s top-talent.
The ability to serve as a project manager for key clients, new clients, or where new lines of business are being developed is preferred but not a requirement.
Technical/Execution/Production
Serve as the technical advisor, providing input and evaluation on Distribution Modernization projects.
Advocate for quality and ensure that corporate and T&D quality initiatives are implemented, including coordinating with the appropriate teams to assign quality control reviewers.
Advance and develop department tools and workflows to increase efficiency of designs, specification development, and project execution.
Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
Proactively work through corrective actions where deficiencies are identified.
Qualifications
Five (5) years related professional experience.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering and registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer is preferred.
Proven leadership in developing and implementing vision.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and analytical problem-solving skills.
Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
Ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, poise, and discernment.
Proven planning, organizing, and execution skills.
Understanding of electric utility industry and distribution market preferred.
Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation Range
$120,000-$220,000
The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
