Burns & McDonnell Senior Mechanical Engineer - Onsite Energy & Power (Brea) in Brea, California

Description

Burns & McDonnell has an exciting opportunity in Onsite Energy & Power Group for a Senior Mechanical Engineer that focuses on campus and industrial utility design and studies as well as the overall sustainability and decarbonization market for power, process, corporate, healthcare, airports, institutional, industrial, and manufacturing campuses.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will execute complex assignments requiring the application of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods. Some specific duties & responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating project design assignments and design teams.

  • Performs Lead Engineer duties on large campus utility projects.

  • Developing scope of work, conceptual design, and execution plans.

  • Preparing engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules.

  • Preparing/creating construction documents for the installation of mechanical systems including boilers, chillers, and thermal piping.

  • Providing leadership, guidance, instruction, and mentorship to less experienced staff members.

  • Regularly meeting and corresponding with clients or outside personnel.

  • May coordinate departmental and divisional project studies and reports.

  • Some marketing responsibilities, including proposal development and participation in project interviews.

  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.

  • Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.

  • Participate in development of project schedules, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning.

  • Other duties will be assigned as required.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer shall have work experience which demonstrates progressive design and project management responsibilities, including experience with design scope development, budget preparation and project execution meeting schedule requirements and maintaining established budgets. This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments. Must be capable of interpreting and developing solutions to complex problems.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written & verbal communications as well as strong analytical & problem-solving skills are required. Previous consulting engineering experience preferred.

  • Licensed as Professional Engineer strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus. 7 years mechanical engineering experience. EPC or Design-Build project experience preferred.

  • Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE). Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Experience with Energy Modeling and Hydraulic Analysis.

  • Experience in Geothermal Facility Assessment & Energy Analysis, Vertical Bore field Design, Horizontal Bore field Design, Geothermal Site Planning, Geothermal Bore field Operational Analysis is a plus.

  • Experience with Infrastructure Master Planning and Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (especially related to decarbonization) is a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

  • Ability to travel.

Compensation Range

$150,000.00 -$205,000.00

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
