Burns & McDonnell Staff Distribution Engineer (Houston) in Houston, Texas

Description

The Staff Distribution Engineer will work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on various 2.4kV to 34.5kV overhead and underground utility distribution projects. Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for both overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design. Develop and prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other required deliverables. Perform various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations. Apply strong knowledge of NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures. Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers. Perform field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private utility systems. Prepare and disseminate project communication regarding vegetation management, thirdparty attachments, right-of-way, and outage planning. Develop client presentations, reports, and visualizations to demonstrate technical results and project status. All other duties as assigned. Telecommuting is allowed 30 days per year. Primarily Domestic travel up to 25% of the time is required based on project needs. Multiple positions available.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology*, or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus three (3) years of electrical engineering experience.

*A Bachelor’s degree in in any Engineering Technology field must be accompanied with completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus two (2) years of electrical engineering experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus two (2) years of described experience.

Must have at least two (2) years of experience with the following:

  • Standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Overhead and underground electric distribution design, including both new construction and rebuilds/upgrades/reconfigurations of existing installations.

  • ArcFM, AEGIS, GDT, DDS or similar electric distribution design software.

  • GIS software or GE Smallworld.

  • AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs, or other similar analysis programs.

  • Easements, right-of-way, and permitting requirements for distribution projects.

  • Creating, populating, and closing out work orders on client work order management systems such as SAP, Maximo, WMIS, or similar.

Telecommuting is allowed 30 days per year. Primarily Domestic travel up to 25% of the time is required based on project needs.
