Burns & McDonnell Staff Electrical Engineer (Houston) in Houston, Texas

Description

Perform electrical automation design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion. Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities. Design electrical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers. Applies strong knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry. Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers. Performs quality reviews and updates drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software. Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities. Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients. Creates project deliverables including but not limited to device configurations, network architecture diagrams, and specifications. Meets and corresponds with client or outside personnel to develop relationships with key client points of contact. Telecommuting allowed thirty (30) days per year. Domestic travel required up to 25% for internal meetings and client site visits.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or a directly related degree from an ABET accredited program plus three (3) years of automation experience in utility and industrial settings. Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or active Engineer in Training (EIT) is required.

Must have at least three (3) years of experience with the following:

  • Standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Automation engineering experience in Utility or Industrial settings for SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), EMS (Energy Management System) or DCS (Distributed Control System) clients.

  • Field commissioning of SCADA, EMS, DCS systems.

  • Multiple automation configuration platforms.

  • Human Machine Interface (HMI) platforms.

  • Multiple automation protocols.

  • Network design.

  • Microsoft Office Suite.

Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology or a directly related degree from an ABET accredited program plus two (2) years of automation experience in utility and industrial settings in lieu of Bachelor’s plus three (3) years of automation experience in utility and industrial settings. Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or active Engineer in Training (EIT) is required.

Must have at least three (2) years of experience with the following:

  • Standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Automation engineering experience in Utility or Industrial settings for SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), EMS (Energy Management System) or DCS (Distributed Control System) clients.
