The Senior Civil Designer will work on an integrated design team within our Aviation & Federal Global Practice. Senior Civil Designer will perform the expected tasks with minimal guidance from the design team and staff.

Our team is routinely responsible for performing the following:

  • Develop master plans for state-of-the-art facilities for commercial aviation and federal government clients. These facilities include aircraft maintenance hangars, engine maintenance facilities, munitions storage, personnel training facilities, flight simulator facilities, and administration buildings.

  • Design site infrastructure for these facilities, including road geometry, parking lot layout, utility layout, grading and drainage design, and stormwater management.

  • Design airfield infrastructure for regional and international airport clients, including runways, taxiways, parking aprons, alert shelters, engine runup areas.

  • Design fuel storage and piping facilities at airports and military facilities.

  • Design ramp support facilities at airports including aircraft parking, maneuvering, jet bridge analysis, and ground support equipment servicing/parking.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Drafting and Design Technology degree and 15 years’ CAD experience, or

  • Associate degree in Drafting and Design Technology and 14 years CAD experience, or

  • Bachelor's degree in Drafting and Design Technology or related field and 13 years CAD experience.

Software Competencies:

  • Autodesk Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office products.

  • Knowledge of a combination of two or more software packages used by Civil Designers such as Autodesk Infraworks, Microstation, AutoTURN, AviPLAN, SiteOps, ArcGIS, Adobe Products, and basic understanding of design software used by other disciplines such as Revit or Plant 3D would be expected.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and clients) in a multi-disciplined project team environment to accomplish objectives.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Manage multiple large projects in drawing production while delegating tasks and demonstrating core leadership skills to effectively lead junior project staff in career growth.

  • Mastered the knowledge of CAD standards and best practices with the capability to instruct others and provide input.

  • Mastered the ability to exercise independent design decisions to complete required drawings.

  • Advanced knowledge of the survey process and how to incorporate information into the design.

  • Advanced knowledge of Site Geometry within a 2D environment with Grading and Utility Design within the 3D environment.

  • Assist Engineers with design calculations for site geometry, grading analysis, and utility design.

  • Responsible for the Civil design quality control process.

  • Mastered knowledge in the theory and practices of civil discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to Civil Design. Ability to forecast the needs of other disciplines from Civil design content.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

  • Some travel may be required. More experienced designers may attend design workshops or perform field inspections.
