Burns & McDonnell Staff Transportation Electrification (TE) Engineer - Networks, Integration & Automation (New England) in Newton, Massachusetts

Description

Burns & McDonnell has exciting opportunities for those interested in growing their careers in zero-emission mobility and transportation electrification. This opportunity hires into our transportation electrification practice which designs and builds infrastructure projects that have recently recieved significant funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Our project portfolio includes charging infrastructure for major metropolitan transit agencies, major heavy-duty trucking operators, private fleet customers, utility fleet clients and cutting edge/developmental charging hardware installations.

Our Transmission & Distribution global practice is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer who will be responsible for the creation and assembly of electrical design packages for electric vehicle infrastructure projects. Because of the nature of the industry, this position has significant career growth potential.

  • Provide technical advice to clients and team members

  • Provide electrical engineering design for electric vehicle charging infrastructure projects from conceptual design through construction packages. This includes site plans, single lines, construction details, specifications, and calculations

  • Coordinate with civil/structural engineer to provide complete designs

  • Coordinate with utilities and permitting agencies

  • Provide support through construction including reviewing submittals, answering requests for information, and providing revised design documents as needed

  • Attend site visits and client meetings to discuss existing facilities

  • Perform quality reviews of electrical design packages

  • Provide input on project and construction estimating at various phases

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members.

  • Attend and participate in client, contractor, and vendor meetings

  • Attend and present at industry conferences

  • Develop white papers and present at industry conferences

  • Present solutions and/or findings to client

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.

  • 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.

  • Successful completion (i.e.passing) FE or EIT preferred.

  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

  • Experience preferred in Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) design

  • Previous experience using and designing to NFPA 70 (NEC)

  • Experience with designing electrical systems including:

  • Facility distribution systems, 480VAC and Below

  • Building and Site Lighting

  • Interest in vehicle electrification and/or zero emission mobility

  • Experience preferred using REVIT, AutoCAD, and electrical design softwares

  • Experience preferred in designing medium voltage electrical service and distribution systems

  • Self-starter ready and able to learn new skill sets in this growing and changing field

  • Ability to travel.

Compensation Range

$115,000 - $175,000

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
