Burns & McDonnell’s Southwest Region is searching for a well-rounded experienced and driven Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Power Global Practice in our Phoenix, Arizona regional office! This unique opportunity requires an individual with aptitudes for engineering, business development, and project management. We are seeking a “seller-doer” type who is safety minded, with technical expertise, focused on high-quality deliverables along with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead multidiscipline, including electrical design project teams, to create world class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects including power, mining, renewables, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities. The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to code requirement, budget constraints, design factors and client needs.

What you will do:

  • Responsible charge engineer leading electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the client.

  • Develop equipment packages for procurement: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Quotations (RFQ's), review technical bid summaries, and provide purchase recommendations.

  • Review electrical equipment vendor drawings, and interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers.

  • Apply expert knowledge of commonly used electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.

  • Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard competent buildable design solutions.

  • Perform quality reviews of production drawings for a variety of projects and project related data as required.

  • Review submittals and requests for information during construction.

  • Support construction by coordinating with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, performing field inspections, and participating in commissioning and start-up of electrical systems.

  • Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to electrical engineering practices.

  • Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.

  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.

  • Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.

  • Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning.

  • Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities.

  • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.

  • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.

  • Monitor and report on project schedules, scope, and project budgets.

  • Responsible for effective management of change orders.

  • Lead project design and construction related meetings with client.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding technical issues and support communications related to scope, budget, schedule, environmental compliance, and facility support.

  • Responsible for customer satisfaction goals and expectations.

  • Monitor progress on projects and provide input into areas of concern and direction or redirection to enhance achievement of project schedules, productivity of goals, budgets, quality, and overall profitability of the project.

  • Participate in and potentially attend industry-associated conferences and/or committees.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 7 years electrical engineering experience required or;

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 6 years electrical engineering experience.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required with ability to obtain Arizona and/or New Mexico PE by reciprocity within 90 days.

  • Engineering, Procurement, & Construction (EPC) project design or construction experience is a plus.

  • Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards.

  • Strong computer skills, e.g. Microsoft Office Suite.

  • ETAP, SKM, or acSELerator software experience is a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with leading multi-discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

  • Ability to travel.
