Burns & McDonnell Staff Civil Engineer - Transmission & Distribution (Portland, ME) in Portland, Maine
Description
The Staff Civil Engineer will prepare site development design packages in support of critical electric infrastructure projects across the Northeast. A key focus area will be client and peer to peer interaction on both site-based and linear projects. The Staff Civil Engineer will work wiith the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting civil plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.
Perform civil design of projects from the conceptual phase through construction.
Perform site access design, grading & earthwork modeling.
Design soil erosion & sediment controls and stormwater best management practices per state or local guidelines.
Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations.
Prepare stormwater management studies and SWPPP.
Design utility (water/sewer) connections to public mains.
Prepare civil construction specifications, quantity take-offs, and provide bidding support.
Review contractor submittals, RFIs and prepare as-builts.
Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
Apply strong knowledge of commonly used civil engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the civil engineering services industry.
Be responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
Be responsible for effective communication with other disciplines and project stakeholders.
Be responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
Or Bachelor of Science in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.
3 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred.
Successful completion (i.e.passing) FE or EIT required.
Strong knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation) and civil analysis programs such as AutoTURN, PondPack, FlowMaster, CulvertMaster, Hydraflow Hydrographs and Storm Sewers.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
